Bachhaus Eisenach

Museum der Neuen Bachgesellschaft e.V.

Town walks

Along with a visit to the Museum, the town walk “In Bachʼs footsteps” can be booked at a reduced price. It can take place before or after the Museum visit, or even on the evening of the previous day or on the following day.

The tour of the town visits the market square with the Town Hall, from the tower of which Bachʼs father Ambrosius and his town pipers had to play twice a day. In the town church of St George, visitors can see Bachʼs baptismal font, the organ and the choir stalls in which not only Bach sat, but also Martin Luther 200 years before him. Bachʼs parents lie buried in the Old Cemetery, along with many other members of the Bach family. The tour also includes the Latin School in the Dominican Monastery, where Bach had his first music lessons, the town pipers' tower and the first house where Bachʼs father lived. The general history of the town and information about St Elisabeth, Luther, Telemann, Goethe and Wagner are also covered.

The town walk can also be booked as a costumed guided tour. All destinations are within the historic Old Town and can be reached on foot.
